PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
